Choosing the right lawyer can be a lucky dip.  How do you know whether the lawyer you are thinking about is any good?

Traditionally, a lawyer got most of their work by word of mouth.  That is, a client had a good experience with a lawyer and then gave that lawyer’s name to a friend, colleague or so on who needed similar work done.  That new client then called up and made an appointment to see the lawyer.

Times have changed.  You might still be given the name of a lawyer by that friend or colleague.  But potential clients tend not to stop there these days.  They will check out the lawyer’s web site.  They might do a Google search for a lawyer and see what information comes up – whether that be good, bad or indifferent.  They might ask others for their experiences through social media.  Only then, when satisfied, will they contact the lawyer to make an appointment.
